Jhon Mora, Kiteboarder Representing Cayman Islands

Another up and coming kiteboarder is in the person of Jhon Mora.

The 32-year-old from Colombia owns and runs Kitesurf Cayman. He is the head instructor of the school. Jhon has over 10 years of professional kiteboard experience, teaching in Colombia, Ecuador, the Cayman Islands and Peru, from where he also runs another kitesurf school, Peru Kite Mancorca. He came to Cayman six years ago after working in Ecuador and Peru.

Jhon has competed in major international kitesurfing tournaments in which he is gradually achieving his goal to be the best kitesurfer out there.

This year, he has done exceptionally well.

Last February, he was third place in The Rock International Open (TRIO) that he organized in part. The winner, Riccardo Lecesse, is now ranked world No.2.

In March, he was also third place when he went to compete in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Sherman Island, Then, he was second in a San Francisco event, which is one of the biggest events in the States with competitors from all around the world.

Jhon was sixth place then for the Euro Cup that took place in Medemblick, Holland. The event is said to be the first step in getting kite racing into the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and at the International Sailing Federation World Games.

From 14th in the world rankings, he became 9th, which was definitely such a big accomplishment as he wanted to be in the top 10.

Jhon is now gearing up for more events that will showcase his kiteboarding prowess. He will have three events in Europe and they are in Gizzeria, Italy and Istanbul, Turkey, respectively. He will also compete in the European Championships in Poland then he will go to San Diego for the North American championships.

He is now more confident with the sport especially with sleeker and modernized kiteboarding equipment. He believes the present and also the future gears are safer and more competent.

Aside from his own personal ambition, this Colombian also wants to promote his now beloved Cayman Islands as a terrific kiteboarding destination.

Jhon wants to inspire everyone to come and see the beauty of Cayman: enjoy the sights and the beaches, go shopping and try out the excellent restaurants.

Furthermore, he also wants to encourage people to even just try to kiteboard.

Jhon prides the Cayman Islands as a beautiful travel and kiteboarding place with its turquoise water, fine temperature, consistent winds and nice beaches.

He looks forward to representing and introducing the world to Cayman and he hopes that the government, especially the Department of Sports and the Ministry of Tourism can help with his agenda.

With his school, he aims to tap the potential of anyone who is interested in kiteboarding. He also puts himself out there and participates in different topnotch contests. He pioneered and developed the kiteboarding culture in the Cayman Islands.

Because of this passionate and eager man, and with the rate that he is going, Cayman Islands will surely be recognized and well-known in no time.
